The SoMMet Kick-off meeting took place at PTB in Braunschweig, Germany, on 11 and 12 October 2022. During the meeting, the project partners planned and discussed the activities scheduled for the first six months of the project. The meeting was organised as a hybrid event. Representatives of the ISMN (International Soil Moisture Network) also attended the meeting in person. Furthermore, scientists from the CLIMERS Research unit at TU Wien and the ESA-ESRIN (European Space Agency's Centre for Earth Observation) joined the discussions remotely to share information about the SoMMet and FRM4SM (Fiducial Reference Measurements for Soil Moisture) projects. On the second day of the meeting, the partners visited the laboratories and calibration facilities of the PTB Department of Neutron Radiation. These facilities, together with the laboratories of other partners, will be used within the SoMMet project to characterise and validate the CRNS methodology sensors.
