Hybrid training event on soil moisture metrology

January 2025

Following the M27 progress meeting, the Danish Technological Institute (DTI) hosted a hybrid SoMMet training event in Taastrup, Denmark, on 22 January 2025. Around 60 people participated online, in addition to those attending in person. Six presentations by SoMMet experts explored soil moisture metrology across spatial scales, covering point-scale measurements, commercial soil moisture sensors and practical field experience, as well as the fundamentals of neutron metrology and neutron spectrometry.

The programme also addressed cosmic-ray neutron sensing (CRNS) for outdoor applications, neutron-transport modelling using URANOS, and CRNS data processing and interpretation. The training thus connected laboratory-based metrological principles with the practical application of soil moisture monitoring methods under field conditions.

Recordings of all six presentations are openly available through Zenodo; see Training materials.
